The researcher will partner with a major dockless mobility company, Lime, to analyze dockless trip origin and destination data in a broad cross-section of cities and markets in the United States. Lime will also provide the data from a recent mode choice survey of their users. A key aspect of that survey is a question which asked users to self-report how they would have traveled on their most recent dockless trip had dockless mobility not been available – i.e. their self-reported “alternate” mode. Lime researchers, including Dr. Calvin Thigpen, policy research manager for Lime, will collaborate in the analysis. Additionally, the City of Los Angeles has agreed to provide data for scooter dockless mobility. The city has trip origin and destination data for all scooter companies licensed within Los Angeles. This will allow some comparison between the Lime data and (for one dockless mode – scooters) and the larger market, to provide insights into whether the Lime data are representative of the full market. Support letters from both Lime and the City of Los Angeles are included later in this proposal. |
