摘要: |
An intelligent traffic control system that uses a single proximity sensor on each lane in a traffic junction to determine the length of vehicle queue and allocate appropriate green time was designed and simulated. The main components of this system include: proximity sensors, PIC16F877A microprocessor and LEDs. The programming language used was micro C and Proteus software was used to simulate and test the developed system. Traffic analysis conducted at two major traffic junctions (4-way and 3-way junction) from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. showed that the developed system will reduce delay at the junctions by 35 minutes and 35.9 minutes at the 4-way junction, and 35.35 minutes and 27.15 minutes at the 3-way junction, respectively. This innovation will ensure easy and safe movement of people, goods and services, especially during emergencies. |
