摘要：	Looking at the post 1999 democratic dispensation, a series of empowerment schemes have been designed by the Nigerian government to alleviate poverty which has been the bane to the well-being of Nigerian. Tricycle business is one of the schemes designed by the government to combat poverty through employment generation as well as improve accessibility to socioeconomic functions. This study examined the core determinants of well-being among commercial tricycle operators in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria. Issues examined include socioeconomic background of the operators; operational and socioeconomic characteristics of tricycle operation; and core determinants of well-being among tricycle operators. 235 copies of questionnaires were distributed to tricycle operators across 15 major tricycle parks in Rorin Metropolis of which 221 (94％) were returned valid. Human Need Theory and Binary Logit Regression Methodology were adopted. The result from the study showed the core determinants of wellbeing; with earning; household consumption; and socioeconomic factors (health status, accessibility to water and power supply) played the leading role of well-being status. The core challenges of the operators were extortive daily fees charged by the union and the recent rise in the procurement cost of tricycle. The study suggested that priority be given to the development of social amenities in metropolis and subsidy in the procurement of tricycle as to improve the well-being of the people.
