Monitoring of bridge condition for probable failures is essential to avoid casualties and asset loss. At present it is being done through physical inspection by skilled personnel. However this physical examination may not reveal reliable information and destructive tests are needed for accuracy. As these may damage the structure itself, they are not advisable unless there are no other ways. A system for comprehensive management of bridge decks is proposed by attaching an electronic device to the structure and by measuring the stress, strain and frequency of wave propagation independently through which the condition of a bridge deck can be evaluated through a computer program. As part of this comprehensive management, a system consists of calculating the natural frequency of bridge deck and monitoring vibrations generated by dynamic and wind loads is discussed. There is also a possibility that anti social elements may attach mechanical wave propagators to bridge which will generate waves with the same frequency as the natural frequency of the structure so that it might collapse. |
