The primary overall objective for the proposed research is to assess the suitability of the 'national' calibration of the Mechanistic Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) relative to Arkansas - and if necessary, adjust the MEPDG model coefficients to provide better predictions of pavement distress for Arkansas roadways. A number of specific objectives to be met in this study have been identified. A listing of specific objectives follows. *(1) Identify specific roadway sections to be used in the MEPDG calibration effort. * Collect design, construction, maintenance, and performance data from the identified roadway sections. *(2) Compare MEPDG-predicted pavement distress versus field performance. *(3) Adjust, if warranted, MEPDG prediction model coefficients to provide accurate predictions of Arkansas pavement performance. Due to the relatively broad and ambitious scope of this study, proposed activities necessary to meet project objectives are subdivided into two phases, each with distinct work tasks. Project phases and work tasks are detailed in Section 6, "Work Plan". |
