摘要: New developments in an area change the traffic pattern of nearby road networks. Many a times, it creates traffic problems due to inadequate infrastructure that can cater the increased traffic. This can be overcome by conducting traffic impact assessment and adopting mitigation measures with a comprehensive transportation system planning coherent to the impact. Generally, mitigation measures are of two sorts: those connected to land use and those connected to transportation. The measures related to the transportation system are to be followed or implemented by the authorities as it deals with the then situation of land use change. Otherwise there exists/creates traffic problems in the form of congestion, crashes, pollution etc. This paper deals with various aspects of transportation planning essential for the innocuous and smooth operation of existing and generated traffic in connection with the development of a workcentre campus. An Information Technology Park (IT Park) in the state of Kerala, which is having direct access to National Highway, is taken as the case study. The study was undertaken by accounting the future traffic on the National Highway and estimating the trips generated from the workcentre destined to the road network in the vicinity. The transportation system is then prearranged to complement the total traffic in the post IT Park scenario. The paper deals with a scientific approach of analysing the transportation impact of new infill developments thereby bringing out a rational way of meeting the demands and resolving the likely traffic and transportation issues.
