Sunda Strait is located between Sumatera and Java and is also designated as the IASL I. This strait is one of the busiest shipping channels in Indonesia as it connects Australia and other Asian countries and it also has become an important one for both Indonesia and International shipping, apart from Straits of Malacca in Southeast Asia water [1].In addition, there is also a crossing ferry route transporting passengers and vehicles from Merak in Java to Bakauheni in Sumatera. Since the traffic in the Sunda Strait has a high density, it has become a concern to create a safe passage for all vessel passing or crossing this strait. Hence, the Government of Indonesia proposed a new traffic separation scheme (TSS) here to regulate the traffic and reduce the risk of collision.
This paper is aimed to analyze the collision frequency in the vicinity of Sunda Strait. Four models are introduced, Model1,no TSS and no traffic flow recommendation for the crossing channel are applied. TSS is then introduced in Model 2. In Model 3, the traffic flow recommendation for the crossing passage is applied. A speed limit is then implemented to the TSS legs in Model 4. |
