An industrial facility using precast concrete beams and columns with buckling-restrained braces to resist lateral loads was constructed recently iff the New Madrid seismic zone. The lateral-load-resisting system was designed using established design procedures for buckling-restrained braces in steel and cast-in-place concrete frames. Careful consideration of fabrication and erection tolerances and communication among members of the design team, brace supplier, and contractor were vital to the successful erection of the braced frames. |
