摘要: Long-term continuous monitoring of structures may be helpful in many aspects of structural engineering when parameters of interest can be affected significantly over time. Such monitoring systems require high-speed data acquisition systems, highly sensitive sensors, efficient operating software, and remote control and transfer mechanisms for data collection. Such remote monitoring systems are now possible. To test the idea of continuous monitoring for bridge structures and to examine the sensitivity of vibration properties to structural damage or deterioration, specifications for remote bridge-monitoring systems were developed. They were implemented on two bridges for experimental monitoring of conditions. Their capabilities are described and experience in their design, installation, and operation is summarized. Although intended for use in monitoring bridge structures, they may also be used where remote monitoring is appropriate for such civil engineering structures as dams, retaining walls, buildings, pavements, drainage structures, and traffic signal and sign structures.
