Paratransit service or Intermediate public transport is intermediate in the sense that it fills the gap between human walking and mass transportation. Even though an informal entity, it is the only mode which provides door to door service with short trip as its typical characteristic. The spatial organisation for this type of transportation system does not have any kind of attention in India, which is evident from the fact that it is not considered in the main stream master planning processes. The aim of this study is to identify the locational attributes of paratransit service and understand its role in the urban mobility of Mysore city. A part of the city is chosen within the conurbation boundary which satisfies all the land uses and road typologies. Existing paratransit stands are spatially identified and mapped through field survey. By using appropriate sampling technique, paratransit stands are selected and the data obtained from the primary survey regarding the trip and behaviour characteristics is analysed with, respect to the adjacent land use, road typology, location, accessibility and service availability. Spatial organisati〇n aspects are inferred in which formal recognition of paratransit service and “zone of paratransit accessibility”have evolved as a basic criterion. |
