| 摘要： | Developing nations such as India are facing a rapid growth in infrastructure such as roadways, airports, railways etc. India has a long road network and is preferred as first choice of freight transfer because of access and the cost. The rate of road development has increased in last few years and will increase further as the government is investing a lot on road developmental activities. Due to its popularity and wide access, this has in turn led to increase in number of vehicles as well. The rate of increase in vehicles has surpassed the rate of growth of road network, which has led to congestion in urban areas, and also increase in fatalities due to road accidents. National Highways which account to only 2% of total road network in India, account far around 35% of road fatalities. The number of road fatalities are alarming at around 1.5 lakh per annum. The government is trying to reduce it by identifying the hotspots of road accidents and terming them as Black Spots. The government is proposing various shortterm measures which can be applied very easily and quickly to increase the attention of road users when they approach these locations. This article suggests innovative design and usage of new technologies to increase the attention of road users and allowing them to take appropriate steps for their own safety. It may be a surprising fact that very few road users understand the actual meaning of Black Spot and even few road users will be able to identify the road signage of Black Spot installed on roads. Using more visible road signage along with right placement and innovative design can increase visual attention of road users and has potential to reduce the accidents in these Black Spots. |
