On August 3, 2000, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) received a request from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) for Endangered Species Act (ESA) section 7 formal consultation for the Calapooya Creek bridge scour project (Corps No. 1999-00033). The project will repair the scour at the abutments of the bridge over Calapooya Creek on highway 138W, located about three miles west of Sutherlin in Douglas County, Oregon. Scour at bridge bent two is threatening the integrity of the bent, and must be reinforced with riprap. The objective of this Opinion is to determine whether the action to excavate the stream bank and place riprap is likely to jeopardize the continued existence of the OC coho salmon, or destroy or adversely modify critical habitat. |
