摘要: Concrete microstructure can be evaluated using both thin and polished sections. Methods described in this report were developed as a supplement to ASTM 856 procedures. The use of an epoxy resin containing a fluorescsent dye tended to enhance the ability to view porosity and mechanical features such as interface porosity and cracking. Relationships of formulation and microstructure for a series of 19 concrete samples are presented. The proposed methods are useful to the highway engineer on a variety of levels. A less skilled operator can use the epoxy impregnation techniques for developmental and forensic purposes, to more easily observe effects of making and formulation on homogeneity, and the relationship of cracking and secondary hydration products in deteriorated concrete. The determination of water/cement ratio is more difficult inasmuch as it is done visually by comparing the fluorescence intensity of the unknown with a series of known standards.
