摘要：	This digest presents the literature review for TCRP Project H-13A, "Consequences of the Development of the Interstate Highway System". The aim of this project is to determine the effects of the interstate highway system on urban and suburban areas, focusing particularly on the effects for public transportation as an industry and as a service. The digest summarizes what is known about the consequences of the interstate highway system for public transportation as an industry and as a service. The review also considers the effects of the interstate highway system on the pattern of urban development and on transportation policy and planning because these factors also influence the transit industry and service. By identifying the gaps and omissions in the literature, the review shows the need for additional research. The digest is organized as follows: Introduction; (1.1) Context of Urban Interstate Development; (1.2) Prototypes of Urban Form in the Interstate Highway Era; (1.3) Interstates and Transit in U.S. Cities; (1.4) International Comparisons; and (1.5) Conclusions.
