The Washington State Patrol (WSP), Department of Licensing (DOL) and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) have joined forces to propose the continuation of the implementation of the Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) Pilot Project. This project, begun during the previous biennium, fits the national Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) program for Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO); provides the next, evolutionary step toward the implementation of the Washington State CVO Strategic Plan and reduces operating costs and/or enhances the revenue-generating capabilities of existing Washington State operations. The CVISN Pilot Project represents a major information technology component within the umbrella of the Washington State CVO Strategic Plan. Simply stated, the CVISN Pilot Project will prototype the use of a comprehensive interface to state and federal motor carrier data systems and will deliver real-time, decision-making information to weigh stations and commercial vehicle enforcement officers. In addition, motor carriers will more easily be able to apply and pay for required permits and credentials. Upon successful completion of this pilot/prototype, the transportation agencies plan to roll out the CVISN architecture across the State of Washington. |
