摘要: This report explains the collision of two New Jersey Transit trains near Secaucus, New Jersey, on February 9, 1996. Three people were killed and 69 people were treated at area hospitals for minor to serious injuries sustained in this accident. The total estimated damage exceeded $3.3 million. From its investigation of this accident, the National Transportation Safety Board identified the following safety issues: The medical condition of the engineer of train 1254, the adequacy of medical standards for locomotive engineers, and the adequacy of the response to the accident by New Jersey Transit train crewmembers. Based on its findings, the Safety Board made recommendations to the Federal Railroad Administration, the New Jersey Transit, the Association of American Railroads, the American Public Transit Association, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and the United Transportation Union.
