摘要: The objective of this paper is to develop a set of implementation guidelines useful to a local or state government interested in using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies to maximize usage and deployment of specialized highway equipment in the traffic operations arena. More specifically, to look at equipping paint, signal and sign installation trucks with appropriate ITS technologies. Specific information regarding these technologies in the traffic operations areas was practically nonexistent. The data in this paper was gathered from the public works/highway maintenance experience and was reviewed, studied, and extrapolated in order to develop these guidelines. Using information gathered from a literature review, telephone interviews with engineers and researchers deploying and evaluating Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and Global Positioning System (GPS), implementation guidelines for a traffic operations application were developed and presented in the paper.
