| 摘要： | This symposium provided an opportunity for researchers, engineers, and transportation planners to discuss current developments in highway capacity and level of service. Both new research results and current practices are presented and discussed. The conference was characterized by two aspects. First, with the release of the new edition of the "Highway Capacity Manual" (HCM 2000), this conference marked the beginning of developments beyond the HCM 2000. Thus, one of the special purposes of the conference was consideration of the highway capacity challenges facing transportation professionals in the new century. The second notable aspect of the conference was its location in the middle of the Pacific hemisphere. The selection of this conference site emphasized the commitment of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and its Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service to an exchange of experiences, a shared understanding of country-specific traffic challenges in different countries, and an increased awareness of solutions that have been found outside the USA. The conference was especially focused on an exchange with Pacific Rim countries. The symposium proceedings are a compilation of 42 papers presented at the symposium. These papers represent the work of 73 authors from 11 countries. |
