摘要: The performance of roadside safety devices has traditionally been evaluated through full-scale crash testing. Although full-scale crash testing has proven to be an effective method of evaluating the impact performance of roadside safety systems, the associated high costs of research have severely limited development of new systems. A number of alternative evaluation procedures have been developed in an effort to reduce costs. The alternate procedures include using scale models, surrogate vehicle (pendulum or bogie) testing, and computer simulation. Each of these techniques is described in this paper and examples showing successful applications are included.
