摘要: |
The state of Utah and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) have vastly improved the transportation system in and around Salt Lake City in preparation for the 2002 Winter Olympics. A travel demand management program was created to handle the increase of traffic during the games. Federal law allocates funding to states and cities that host the Olympic Games. Nearly $89 million in federal funds have been used to build and improve major highways and roadways around Salt Lake City. The construction of new roads is assisting UDOT with an efficient flow of traffic and the use of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is providing weather information for the dispatch of winter maintenance. The Transportation Operations Center (TOC) serves as a nerve center to monitor traffic flow on roads and highways as well as the mass transit system. The implementation of 5-1-1 traveler information hotline gives travelers traffic updates and road conditions. |
