摘要: The features that characterize modern roundabouts include yield-at-entry, deflection, and flare, which are absent in nonconforming traffic circles. Roundabout features force drivers to reduce speed during the approach, entry, and movement within the roundabout, leading to a reduction in accidents and an increase in capacity. This article describes and illustrates the modern roundabout, reports on the spread of this traffic configuration in Europe and in the United States, and documents the accident rates for modern roundabouts. The number of roundabouts in the United States is expected to increase, based on their remarkable safety record.
