摘要: Fishing is a global industry and in coastal waters has a history as old as mankind. According to estimates by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the U.N., more than 15 million people are employed aboard vessels that target marine fisheries. Most fishermen work on vessels less than 24 m long, and the vast majority of these are under 25 gross tons; more than half of this fleet is older than 20 years. This article focuses on marine safety issues that relate to the estimated millions of small fishing craft worldwide, including communications, weather forecasting, management, training, and industry advocacy groups.
