Since many Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) are installed on the road network for winter maintenance, a lot of information on temperatures, precipitations and state of the surface of the pavement is available. Collection and dissemination of these data could give valuable information on pavement condition and would make it possible to create a road weather climatology. For this study, the data from 12 RWIS were studied for one year. After statistical analysis of the results, the limits of the study are presented. The reliability of the RWIS data is discussed along with the extrapolation of the sensor measurements to the pavement. The analysis of the results confirm that there is a need for more reliability and standardization of RWIS data. |
