| 摘要： | Goodbye 2020!!! Welcome 2021. Who would have ever thought that our world would change so much this past year. Where will 2021 take us? This is a special year for IMSA. We are entering our 125th year as an association. Just think, back in the day, communication was done by telegraph. I don't know if the group of gentlemen that met in Brooklyn, NY, back in October 1896 would envision where we are today. When I first began my career in Meriden, Conn., the city still had the municipal police call boxes and the Gamewell fire pull boxes in the field. A direct current 100 milliamp circuit operated the system. The police would pull their box lever, the code wheel would punch the tape back at headquarters, and that would let them know their location. There was a phone headset in the box which the officer would use to talk to the station. When I was there, the call boxes were not in use, but I received a full history lesson from some of the officers that actually used them. The Gamewell street and master (building) boxes were still working with 10 circuits throughout the city. While there are still Gamewell master boxes, many of the street boxes have been removed. I know myself, just the 40 years of being in this field of traffic, fire, signs, markings, roadway lighting and inspections are nothing like my first day. We can only imagine what it will be like at our 150th year. |
