This is the heavily illustrated autobiography of Shuttle Buses, the sole survivor of the independents providing local bus services in Ayrshire in the early years of deregulation. Today it has 55 mainly small vehicles. It was a new start business, begun in January 1990 by David Granger and Harry Hay, who left the then state-owned but soon to be privatised Western Scottish to operate commercial and tendered services. It overcame major early setbacks, including racking up losses in its first two years and Hay's sudden death in 1991 when aged only 49. Granger still owns the Kilwinning company 30 years on. |
