£420million of government funding will be made available for local bus projects in England in 2021/22 - £120million for zero-emission vehicles - and bus priority measures will qualify for some of a £4billion levelling up fund for infrastructure investment. However, the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) says it is not enough and offers no relief for the hard-pressed coach industry. The £120million is in addition to the Department for Transport's commitment in 2020/21 to award funding for England's first all-electric bus town. Taken together, chancellor Rishi Sunak says these two funding competitions will deliver over 800 of the 4,000 battery electric and hydrogen fuel-cell zero-emission buses that prime minister Boris Johnson has promised in the UK government's 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution. |
