The first of two new ship-assist tugs for Harbor Docking & Towing arrived at the company's Lake Charles, La., facility in June 2019. That was the Ralph. A little more than two and a half months later the Capt. Robb was delivered to Lake Charles. Both tugs measure 93'×38'×15.5', were built at Washburn & Doughty in East Boothbay, Maine, and mark substantial departures from Harbor Docking & Towing's other tugboats. Prior to delivery of the Ralph and the Capt. Rob, Harbor Docking & Towing's fleet of five tugs had all been built by Main Iron Works in Houma, La., and ranged in length from 105' to 96' with a maximum 6,300 hp. There were two reasons Harbor Docking & Towing went with Wash-burn & Doughty: at 93' Washburn & Doughty's tugs are a good match for the Calcasieu Ship Channel, which John Buchanan, Harbor Docking's president described as a "little tight in places." |
