Mangrove forests are said vulnerable eco-system. It already has been pressured by human activity such as Development, Aquaculture, Mining and Energy Extraction. Development and existence of ports and navigation channels have a considerable big effect on its eco-system. Further more, future Sea Level Rise (SLR) will cause serious change of mangrove forests as another type of human effect. This presentation will be two fold. One is system analysis of the physical – biological relation in the mangrove forests to emphasize the importance and the functions of the eco-system in coastal zone. The other is an impact assessment of SLR on mangrove forests. The mangrove forest’s importances are revealed when the physical – biological interactions are known by field surveys. The oceanographic (physical) system such as tidal propagation, wave attenuation and sediment transportation will affect on the forest structure by controlling environment in spatial and temporal multi spectrum phase. Moreover, to assess the effect of the SLR on mangrove forests, major physical processes are modeled numerically. To seek the way of ‘wise use’ of mangrove forests under ‘sustainable development’ of ports and navigation channels, clear understanding of effect transfer matrix and use of suitable tools for assessing the effect are important. |
