Albany Port is located on the southern coast of Western Australia and is one of seven major ports in the state. The port is located within the natural bay of Princess Royal Harbour, which is connected to King George Sound by a short and narrow channel. Princess Royal Harbour is considered one of the best natural harbours in Australia and indeed the world. Traditionally Albany Port has primarily been a single commodity port exporting mainly grain. Recent commitments from various developers has introduced another major export product, namely woodchips. Due to this additional major export and the growth in other minor commodities within the port, a Master Plan for the port development was commissioned in 2001 to ensure future port expansions are sustainable. |
