摘要：	This paper reviews the development of vessels and the impact of vessel growth on future terminal planning and investment. While all classes of vessels are affected by the trend towards bigger, better and faster, this paper considers three specific vessel types: ?Container vessels ?Bulk LNG carriers and ?Cruise ships and the factors to be considered in the planning of new facilities. It discusses a number of Key Performance Indicators from existing major container terminals and how these can be used to plan future container terminal requirements. It also examines recent developments in container handling equipment and describes a number of new container terminal developments worldwide. Considerations are given for the planning of new "greenfield"?facilities for LNG terminals and the impact of cruise ship development on "heritage"?ports is discussed.
