Transit management and operation relies on stable and reliable CAD/AVL systems that allow for the highly efficient management of transit operations. As the communications operating system must keep the availability of voice and data radio systems high, even if a radio system component fails, it is vital that the key subsystems and devices have standby devices to take over during a failure. The paper provides a definition for fault tolerance, and then describes some of the areas where fault tolerance can be addressed within a CAD/AVL system. |
