摘要: A performance specification for a side collision warning system for transit buses has been developed in a collaborative effort involving Carnegie Mellon University, the Port Authority Transit (PAT) of Allegheny County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The specifications draw on an analysis of transit bus crash data, experience with side collision warning systems for light vehicles and heavy trucks, exploration of proximity systems and experiments with a variety of sensors. This paper describes how the performance specification was developed, provides some examples of the performance specifications and an assessment of their completeness and adequacy. Finally, the paper addresses the value of such systems in reducing crashes.
