摘要: In their paper, the authors present the physics of the mechanism of local scour around a monopile subjected to both unidirectional current and forced vibrations. In advocating the need for the inclusion of dynamic motions induced by the structure in the scouring process, the authors correctly stated that this physical system is present in the foundation of a wind turbine monopile and should not be ignored. Such dynamic motions could be self-excited, e.g., that experienced by submarine pipelines (Guan et al. 2020) or forced, as is the case investigated in this paper. Similarities and differences between the effect of self-induced or forced vibrations on scour around coastal and offshore structures are present, and research studies in both these cases are needed.
