| 摘要： | Toyota City expanded its area through the merger of the next towns and villages in parallel with the development of the automobile industry. Therefore, the City has a dispersed urban structure that there are several smaller urban areas in it. Inhabitants and workers in the City are compelled to move a wide area in their daily life actions. Especially, the factories of Toyota Motor Corporation, the leading company of the main industry of Toyota City, are spread all over the City. And public transportation service is very poor. These situations cause high dependence on automobiles. This creates many kinds of transportation problems, such as chronic road congestion at the City central and around big-scale factories, the increase of short time trips for commuting in the morning and evening rush hours etc. and the increase of traffic accidents. To solve these problems, Toyota City has started to focus on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which is possible to make a contribution to the ease of traffic congestion and to the attractive urban development in the early stage. Since then the City has tried to provide various kinds of traffic-related information, which drivers or visitors want and which changes every moment, through several communication media. From the year 1999 to 2002, the City has conducted 3 kinds of experiments regarding information provision; the experiment of advanced traffic information provision, the experiment of cellular phone based parking and public transportation information provision, and the experiment of comprehensive information provision in the City central. |
