A predicted increase in heavy road transport, which will have a significant impact on a transport market already suffering from bottlenecks and heavy pollution, has resulted in several political counter measures. The European Union has listed various guidelines how to deal with the future predicted situation. One aim is to increase the use of intermodal transportation and, thus, the use of railway transportation. In order for railway transportation to become an optional choice of transport, several changes have to be made. This paper presents the results from a project, BANINFO, investigating how railway transport in Sweden can be handled differently by improving the information exchange. The scope of the project is to understand the complex interplay between the Swedish National Rail Administration, and their customers and to identify the customers' needs of improved information exchange. In parallel, the situation at the Swedish National Rail Administration regarding ability to meet the desires of the customers, have been studied as well as related projects. |
