A lot of attention was paid to the problem of user interaction to new technologies emerged in the last years. New functions are being introduced on vehicles by applying the information and communication technologies recently developed. Such functions require a specific and dedicated design of the human machine interface to fully appreciate and properly use the capabilities of the technologies. The three-year project EUCLIDE "Enhanced human machine interface for on vehicle integrated driving support system", funded by the European Commission within the 5th Framework Programme "Competitive and sustainable Growth", aims to develop a driving support system to be helpful in reduced visibility. The human machine interaction approach, passing through different phases of designs and tests, is user centered and iterative to assure usability in difficult driving conditions. In this paper the preliminary design of the human machine interface is presented: it is currently under test in different simulated environments to provide the design recommendations, coming from the test results. This will allow the development of the final design and implementation to be integrated into vehicles. |
