摘要: This paper reports on the development of a distance measurement (DM) sensor and vehicle detection and classification (VDAC) system using the DM sensors. To cover a variety of ITS applications, an optical sensor (DM sensor) has been developed to detect vehicles, based on triangulation technique. Position, width, height, length, speed, and direction are detected as a vehicle enters and exits the detection zone of the VDAC system with the arrays of DM sensors. In addition, the VDAC system classifies the detected vehicle from their three-dimensional shape, which is also measured by the DM sensors. In this paper, design of the DM sensor, principle of distance measurement, and the VDAC system configurations for different applications are described in detail. As an example of multi-lane application, implementation and operation of the VDAC system for the multi-lane Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system are also described.
