| 摘要： | Information technologies are the core technologies for intelligent transportation systems. Transportation engineering education must evolve to conform to this reality. However, such modifications alone will be insufficient to foster and support the research and education needs of the 21st century transportation system. Graduates and postgraduates will need first hand experience in areas such as data management, software development, and network integration. Researchers will need ready access to traffic condition data and to management and control systems in order to develop and evaluate ITS advances in an operational setting. Virginia’s Smart Travel Laboratory at the University of Virginia is an example of the kind of facility that will provide researchers and students with this unprecedented, yet vital, level of hands on access. |
