摘要: The ROMANSE Project, based in Southampton, UK, utilises telematics to implement a wide variety of innovative driver and passenger information systems, and integrates them to provide flexible control and co-ordinated, accurate, timely and reliable information. One method of disseminating this information is via Variable Message Signs (VMS). Southampton and the surrounding area now have a comprehensive coverage of route guidance VMS. When incidents occur, the operator selects and implements an appropriate strategy from a pre-defined list. The impact of these signs has also been evaluated, using questionnaire surveys to assess both public acceptance of and driver response to the signs. This paper outlines the methodology concerning strategy development, and reports on the findings of the surveys.
