Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.(MHI) developed the system that performs a real-time measurement of traffic flow based on the processing of the image captured by existing Traffic Monitoring Camera. This report describes the vehicle detecting procedure of developed Traffic Flow Measurement System. The traffic flow measurement, that uses the image captured by Traffic Monitoring Camera installed outdoors, requires the accurate vehicle detection that is not affected by sunlight or shadow and the easy system maintenance on each spot of traffic flow measurement. Therefore, MHI developed a vehicle detection procedure, in which the vehicle detection area is divided into meshes according to the purpose and the brightness characters of each mesh are used to detect vehicle. This procedure applied to the System and the error of 5% or less has been achieved in the measurement of the number of vehicles. |
