摘要: Feasibility Study on Weather Information-based Intelligent Winter Highway Systems -Learning from Causes of Multiple Vehicle Collisions in Blizzards-As the preventative actions for the impediment of visual range caused by snowstorms remains a big problem in any area receiving substantial snowfall and cold temperatures, the new Intelligent Winter Highway Systems, which support drivers’ travel by providing appropriate information - has been considered very effective as well as infrastructures such as snow break forests and snow fences. It is essential in the development of the Intelligent Winter Highway Systems to make clear the cause of the accident during snowstorms and to structuralize each factor. In this study, we analyzed meteorological factors related to multiple collisions that have occurred in Hokkaido during snowstorms, as well as other factors, such as behavior of the driver, that may have contributed to these accidents. The end result, proved that drivers’ characteristics and traffic factors such as traffic volume as well as severe weather conditions are closely related to the occurrence of multiple collisions during snowstorms. Based on these results of our analysis, we also studied the feasibility of developing Weather Information-based Intelligent Winter Highway Systems
