摘要: A road information system collects various information about roads, makes judgments, provides road information, and is effectively employed for road management for the purpose of ensuring safe and smooth traffic, efficient utilization of roads, and road maintenance. In this connection, the role of wintertime road weather observations has come under closer scrutiny in recent years. During last year’s Nagano winter Olympics, various support was provided through an Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and a system to make local forecasts of road freezing and snowfall in the region of Nagano Prefecture was in operation and was effectively used for road management. This time, Image-Type Road Surface Snow Depth Sensor for measuring the depth of accumulated snow on the road surface in this system were installed and operated to measure the shape of the snow accumulation as a cross-section across the road. The result was an improvement in road management operation.
