摘要: This paper presents an overview of the Cicero Avenue Smart Corridor initiative around Midway Airport in Chicago. Based on stakeholder inputs, needs and Market Packages were first defined to serve this growing area, where a $700+ million airport reconstruction warrants a closer look at using ITS to improve surface traffic flow and safety. A series of potential actions were defined to better manage traffic flow (ATMS), provide more traveler information (ATIS) and improve transit operations (APTS). These were refined to a list of eight actions with a total price tag of about $12.8 million, with individual projects costing up to $3 million. Annual operating and management costs are estimated at $800k. With initial funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation, it is expected that design of the core project on Cicero Avenue will take place in 2001, followed by construction in 2001. Design funds for other projects may become available late this year as well through the CMAQ program. The National ITS Architecture was used to formulate and guide the initiative and action definition. In addition to a structured approach to identifying stakeholder needs a top-level project architecture was developed.
