Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are being developed to improve the efficiency of present transportation systems. Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) are two of the building blocks of ITS. This paper reports on a computer implementation of an analytical DTA model and on its application. The modeling framework contains four major components: users' behavior model, dynamic network loading model, link performance model and paths generation module. These components are interrelated to and a solution to the DTA problem. A DTA model is formulated based on this framework. Three types of route choice behaviors are considered: (1) following xed route, (2) choosing the route with minimum perceived travel time, and (3) choosing the route with minimum actual travel time. Heuristic solution algorithms are developed and implemented for the users' behavior model, the dynamic network loading model and the DTA model. Computational efficiency is achieved by using efficient data structures and special methods to reduce memory usage and running time. Computational tests demonstrate that the software system cannot only give meaningful results, but also can find a solution much faster than real time for medium size realistic networks. |
