摘要: A regional architecture establishes an overall framework for ITS and serves as a basis for development of integrated systems. Development of a Strategic Early Deployment Plan (SEDP) provided a blueprint for the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in northeastern Illinois. The SEDP was needed to support the integration of the numerous ITS actions underway. The SEDP was prepared under the direction of the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) Advanced Technology Task Force. CATS is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for northeastern Illinois and was considered to be the appropriate organization to coordinate the consensus building process essential to a successful region-wide and multi-modal ITS deployment plan. The Advanced Technology Task Force (ATTF) included the broad range of stakeholders with responsibilities for the development operation, and management of the system. A key benefit of MPO involvement in the ITS planning process is the opportunity to develop a multi-modal context for deployment. The system architecture proposed for the Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee Corridor consists of a Gateway, four hubs, and multiple subsystems, collectively known as the Gateway Traveler Information System (TIS). The SEDP adapted and adopted the Gateway as the regional architecture.
