This study enhanced CORSIM (CORridor SIMulator) to simulate realistic bus operations on transit routes, while new features for calculating bus dwell times and passenger wait times were discussed. In addition an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was developed and integrated with the enhanced CORSIM for predicting bus arrival times. The enhanced CORSIM was tested by simulating NJ Transit Route #39. Useful outputs and important measures of effectiveness (e.g., dwell times passenger wait times, the average bus journey time and speed) were generated. The reliability analysis for the predicted bus arrival times was conducted. The results showed that the enhanced CORSIM can successfully simulate bus operations on designated routes and be adapted by the proposed ANN model for prediction. The study offers transit agencies an efficient and economic tool for evaluating and validating innovative strategies for promoting service quality (e.g. traveler information service) in the advent of Advanced PUB Published by: lic Transportation Systems (APTS). |
