The Shore Line East commuter rail service was initiated in May, 1990 to serve the area along the Connecticut shoreline for thirty-two miles east of New Haven. In 1995, service was extended to New London. The service is operated by Amtrak under contract with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT). When Shore Line East service started, there was no reliable method of making timely, accurate PUB Published by: lic address system announcements at the train stations to inform passengers of delays or annulments. In response to requests from passengers to upgrade both the clarity and the consistency of the PUB Published by: lic address announcements made at the shoreline train stations, ConnDOT commissioned Rideworks - the regional non- profit commuter services company - to develop and implement an automated announcement system. Rideworks is already under contract with ConnDOT to fulfill the customer service and marketing roles for Shore Line East. |
