TravInfo is a Field Operational Test of advanced traveler information systems for the San Francisco Bay Area, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration. The project involves a PUB Published by: lic/private partnership which seeks to compile, integrate and broadly disseminate timely and accurate multi-modal traveler information through commercial products and services. The PUB Published by: lic sector component centers on the Traveler Information Center, which collects and integrates both static and dynamic traveler information. Private sector participation includes Information Service Providers who refine or otherwise repackage or add value to the information and disseminate it to end users. The evaluation of TravInfo consists of four major elements: (1) institutional, (2) technology, (3) traveler response, and (4) network performance. The Traveler Information Center study is part of the technology evaluation element and consists of four primary elements, namely system reliability, operator interface communications interface and response time analysis. The communications interface component investigates through what means information "exits" the Traveler Information Center, which types of data are accessed and by whom and the general evolution of data downloading at the Traveler Information Center. This paper provides interim results concerning the players that access traveler information data and the evolution of data downloading in general since the beginning of TravInfo operations in September 1996 through June 1997. The evaluation and data monitoring will last until September 1998. |
