摘要: In this study, a survey was conducted to determine driver perceptions to in-vehicle systems which provided information on levels of congestion, location and severity of incidents, and information on attributes of alternate routes when congestion is detected in an original intended route. Information was provided using electronic maps or turn-by-turn displays in combination with visual text or audio messages developed using female recorded speech. Fourteen different in-vehicle systems were included: five systems provided information on location and severity of incidents and / or levels of congestion; six systems provided information on alternate routes in a turn-by-turn configuration; and three systems provided information on alternate routes in an electronic map configuration. Participants were asked to rate these systems, focusing on seven attributes: ease of use; preparation for turns; sufficiency of information for route selection; distraction from driving; clarity of visual text; clarity of voice; and overall utility as a congestion information system. Oral and written comments about these systems were also recorded. Electronic maps received a lower rating probably because of their complexity. Other complex displays also received low ratings. Ease of use was the most important factor that influenced the overall utility of an information system. Driver distraction was not considered as important as the other factors probably because this was a survey and not a driving experiment. Most participants preferred audio messages for congestion warning along with a visual display to give further information.
