This paper presents a framework for evaluating human factor concerns for automated vehicle control for different mixes of AHS attributes. For each mix of attributes, the authors look at the basic driving tasks: 1) detection, 2) recognition, 3) situation analysis, 4) decision making, and 5) control response. The authors then present an analytical process to determine the responsibilities of the human driver, vehicle, and AHS infrastructure for these driving tasks. With this framework in place, the authors discuss the technical requirements of each responsible party and illustrate these requirements through several case studies. |
